Several centuries after Christianity spread all over Europe and Hungary the Apor family, landlords of the Bálványos castle, were still practicing the old creeds. Even the name Bálványos means idol in Hungarian. According to the legend the fortification has originally been built by elves who kept the family home safe from all enemies. Hike the trails to the top of the mountain and take a good look on the endless forests that protect the ruins.
